Summer time is Frisbee time! And since Ultimate players are wise and sporty people, they seem to spend their free time outdoor instead of sitting in front of computer screens. This was at least my theory for the slight drop of visitors for ffindr in June. But then I got an e-mail from David pointing out a bug that led me to the explanation: a missing semi-colon in a JavaScript file uploaded beginning of June messed with Internet Explorer below version 8, thus stopping billions of visitors to get counted.

The bug is fixed, the numbers (will) look nice again. Anyway, there is no real use in publishing June's forged stats, so let's just have a look at Alexa's traffic rank. Alexa currently lists ffindr on position 762,915 -- with an upward trend. Six months ago ffindr wasn't even in the top million. In France, ffindr is already for a long time within the top 100,000 (current position: 83,798).

The following stats have been assembled before I encountered the bug, so why not sharing them with you? Anyway they are all in percentage, just keep in mind that visitors using IE6 and IE7 have been ignored.

No newcomers in the top ten, just some position swapping in the second half. I decided to list the top 25 countries this time to bring some new flavour into this chart and to show who's just behind these ten usual suspects.

  1. United States 21.47% (1. with 22.46% in May)
  2. Germany 17.36% (2. with 14.36%)
  3. France 14.26% (3. with 10.30%)
  4. United Kingdom 9.20% (4. with 8.83%)

  6. Switzerland 3.34% (6. with 4.00%)
  7. Austria 2.76% (10. with 2.18%)
  8. Belgium 2.56% (8. with 3.08%)
  9. Spain 2.39% (7. with 3.08%)
  10. Italy 1.73% (9. with 2.43%)
  11. Poland 1.69% (12. with 1.56%)
  12. Netherlands 1.38% (13. with 1.55%)

  24. Philippines 0.39% (19. with 0.64%)
  25. Latvia 0.34% ↔ (31. with 0.35%)

No major upsets regarding cities, with Berlin pushing back on the podium. Paris doubles its share, certainly due to the currently happening Summerlove. There's one question that remains: what the heck happened in the Rheinland (with Duisburg from 62 to 6 and Cologne from 31 to 10 in one month -- with not so far Darmstad jumping from 240 to 12)? Enjoy an exceptionally enlarged ranking of the top 25 ffindr cities:

  1. Paris 6.67% (1. with 3.80% in May)
  2. London 3.29% (2. with 3.53%)
  3. Berlin 1.67% ↔ (5. with 1.58%)
  4. Vienna 1.63% (6. with 1.36%)
  5. Zurich 1.42% (4. with 1.68%)
  6. Duisburg 1.30% (62. with 0.27%)
  7. Dublin 1.06% (3. with 1.85%)
  8. New York 0.97% (7. with 1.26%)
  9. Munich 0.82% ↔ (8. with 0.87%)
  10. Cologne 0.79% (31. with 0.42%)
  11. San Francisco 0.78% (28. with 0.44%)

  18. Amsterdam 0.60% ↔ (24. with 0.53%)
  19. Stuttgart 0.60% (12. with 0.75%)
  20. Warsaw 0.60% (14. with 0.72%)
  21. Barcelona 0.58% (30. with 0.42%)
  22. Bremen 0.57% (55. with 0.28%)
  23. Nuremberg 0.56% ↔ (25. with 0.51%)
  24. Bratislava 0.55% (35. with 0.38%)
  25. Atlanta 0.52% ↔ (29. with 0.44%)

  1. I think I know what exactly happened to the Rheinland (and all other German cities that got boosted on this month's top lists): **Germany is known for having widely adopted Firefox as their browser of choice**. Thus they feature only a few Internet Explorer users, which gives them this time an advantage over Internet Explorer stronghold countries.
  2. It's great that you show statistical data! That way we can estimate where Ultimate is played (yes, I know, not everyone uses ffindr but still, better than nothing). Keep up the great work!
  3. Cheers Johannes! I just upgraded the user experience for the map on the homepage... which perfectly visualises the distribution of Ultimate Frisbee in the world. A blog post announcing this will follow now...
