The Rylands will be played under an alternative but not competing rule set to those of Ultimate Frisbee. The main difference is that the players cannot make calls - instead there will be 4 referees on each pitch watching for fouls/travels/picks etc. We will be sending out a preliminary set of rules very soon, possibly tomorrow.

We will send out another 'major changes' document for those of you that don't want to sift through what is mainly the current rules of ultimate.

Each regional team will combine student (slotted) and club (unslotted) players. Teams will consist of 17 players. Each team will have 9 slots divided dependent on a university team's finishing position at open outdoor regionals this year:

  • 1st place at open outdoor regionals - 4 slots
  • 2nd place at open outdoor regionals - 3 slots
  • 3rd place at open outdoor regionals - 2 slots

That leaves 8 unslotted places on the team. The captains from each of the three university teams will form a group responsible for selecting the 8 unslotted players. For the unslotted players it is where they live that defines their region rather than which club team they play for e.g. many Chevron players live in Bristol and would be eligible to play for the Western region rather than for the North; where Chevron is from.

Currently only one university club has told us that they will not be attending The Rylands. We will be offering their slots to the next highest finishing university team from their region.

The exact method of selecting the 8 unslotted players is up the discretion of the 3 captains. We suggest either emailing the players they want to play directly offering them a place on the team or asking players who wish to be considered to email them and then picking 8 out of the applications they receive.

If anyone has any questions about rostering then feel free to email us.

The Irish region has told us that they would like to send a team. We have told them that we may relax the 4/3/2 slot rule for their team and allow them to bring 8 club and 9 student players from any Irish university.

We are going to set a deadline of Friday 3rd March for the universities that wish to attend to email us with names and email addresses of the players - we will be sending out emails directly to the captains of the universities.

Many ultimate players are attached to their number. We will be providing shirts for the tournament. If you are playing and you want 'your' number on the back of your shirt you *need *to email us. The same goes for shirt sizes - if you do not tell us what number & size you want we will just get large with the smallest number available.

We will be providing accommodation in Halcyon player's houses for all players who require it.
