We are writing on behalf of Surat Ultimate - we’ve been playing Ultimate in Surat for more than a year and half now and have over 30 regular adult players and more than 50 students players. You might have met our teams at AUO 2012/13 or at Usha Delhi 2012. We are excited to be part of the Ultimate movement happening in India and want to play a part in the same!
Therefore, after a very modest Surat Ultimate Open (SUO) in 2012, we are excited to announce the 2nd edition of the SUO to be held on March 23-24, 2013. We were planning to do it in early March - but now that Flybaba is not happening, we thought we can do it in the same period. The tournament will be held on the lush green fields of Fountainhead School. We have 3 full size ultimate fields to which we have access through the year. While the weather will be on the warmer side, we plan to begin early morning and end late evening with some a break in afternoon depending on the number of team registrations.
Registration and Format: There will be no registration fee. We plan to introduce the Swiss Format in this tournament as it ensures opponents of equal strength play against each other and we would have closer matches between them. We would like to encourage the 5:2 ratio and 6:1 will be enforced. Players can register individually or as a team. If you register as an individual we would make sure that you get a team. Registrations will open in the first week of February.
Accommodation: We will be providing accommodation for the teams in the school premises itself and we will also list down some other options for those who want to stay in the city. We’ll also be providing local transport from the station / airport and the city if you’re staying outside of school premises.
Food: We will be providing all the players with breakfast for free and 2 meals a day at a nominal cost. There will be water/banana/lemonades freely available on the fields throughout the day.
Travel: Surat is very well connected by train from Delhi, Ahmedabad, Pune and Mumbai and by flight from Delhi and Mumbai.
We hope to host an exciting tournament and we look forward to doing a tournament every year! We will be posting the link for registrations very soon - so watch out! If you have questions, please get in touch with the Event coordinators by phone / email / facebook.
