The 2007-8 AFDA Tournament of the Year comes back!
'Surf and Turf' format – one day of grass Ultimate, one day of beach Ultimate.
Andrew 'Bads' Badman is an icon on the Byron Bay Ultimate scene, and rightly so. As a TD, he is a gracious host, treating you as his personal guest (even if he's never met you before) and working hard and constantly to ensure his visitors enjoy themselves and get the most out of the weekend. It's like you've been invited to his house to stay, and he's given you the keys to the liquor cabinet.
Some say he's like an overly enthusiastic butler – a bit like Riff Raff from the Rocky Horror Picture Show, even though he's more Frank 'n' Further – but they're just kidding, although the best bit is when he whips his fellow Byron locals into a frenzy of volunteer 'time-warping' effort! Yes, its not just Bads, it’s the whole Byron Ultimate scene that welcomes you. Some even into their very beds! And others into their personal pizza parlour (complete with smooth bartending fireman who'll slip your ladies a freebie if you wink right)
The Bash is miles ahead of many tournaments because of the awesome venue. Not just the whole Byron Bay thing. The fields have their own brand-new cabin accommodation right next to them. The beach is 100m just over the dunes. There's a pool 200m in the other direction. Its just fricking awesome.
But the Bash doesn't just rest on the venue laurels. Badman's Birthday Bash was innovative in providing food, and much the better for it. Lunch both days were yummy gourmet burgers, prepared at a restaurant up the road, wrapped in foil to preserve the heat and mingle the flavours, and delivered to the fields.
